Ride across the hillside, jump fallen trees, cross rocky streams. Arrange with the manager the day before if you would like an early ride. Hourly, half day or full day rates available for adults and children.


The crystal clear Turon River is a freshwater trout stream and perfect for all dedicated fly fisherman. The season extends from the October to June long weekends. Please bring your own fishing gear and license.



Canoes are available on request. This is a great sport and lots of fun!

15 kilometres of river and thousands of acres of magical bushland to discover! Wildlife abounds. Turon Gates is an historic property, follow the old Chinese water race up the river. A good walk is a must for all visitors.

Steep hills, river crossings and challenging tracks taking you across mountain ridges, where views are breathtaking. There’s acres of great back country to explore.


Camp with your family and friends along the river, pull up under a tree and enjoy old-fashioned camping in a natural landscape. Hot showers and toilet facilities are provided.

MUDGEE – just one hours’ drive further along the Mudgee Road.
There are more than 30 new and established wineries, many with tastings and cellar door sales. Mudgee has kept a unique Australian attitude towards this exciting industry and has remained a charming old-style township with a great array of local produce, craft stores and art galleries. Note: the Mudgee Wine festival is usually around mid-September each year.
SOFALA – a wonderful old mining town a four-wheel cross-country drive or in a two wheel drive vehicle via the Ilford turn-off.
Old dancing halls, general stores and hotels where fortunes were made and lost and where at one stage a population of 8,000 people lived a life we can only imagine! It is such an exciting and interesting place to visit - many buildings are still intact with ghosts and folklore to boot! Have lunch at the Sofala Café or the Old Sofala Gaol, enjoy an evanshire afternoon tea at the Post Office (best scones in the world there) – it's all good fun!
THE BLUE MOUNTAINS – also about an hour away.

Heaps of craft shops, coffee shops and wonderful old buildings and views greet you when you turn off the main highway into this grand holiday destination of yesteryear.
BATHURST – also about an hour away.

A town rich in colonial history with traditional Australian architecture (buy a historic home pass) together with the vibrancy of a young university town. It is also the home of the Mount Panorama car races. There’s heaps to explore and great places to eat, Bathurst is one of the grandest towns in NSW.
THE GREAT LITHGOW ZIG ZAG RAILWAY
– on the other side of Lithgow!
An engineering masterpiece of the 19th century with steam trains of yesteryear taking you through a scenic adventure. Enjoy lunch at the top kiosk. Open every day, $17 an adult, $8.50 a child with departures 11am, 1pm & 3pm.
NEWNES GLOW WORM TUNNEL
Turn off Mudgee Rd between Lithgow and Lidsdale.
Fragile and beautiful the glow worms are always fascinating to children and adults alike. Part of the original WW2 Shale mining works, the natural flora and fauna around these tunnels are magical. Take a torch!
THE GREAT WESTERN PLAINS ZOO
– you’re half way there!!
The ‘Dubbo’ zoo as its often known is 2.5 hours further along the Castlereagh Highway. It’s where animals can be seen in a natural environment – you can rent a bike and ride around – and a day trip is easily managed when leaving Turon around 8 in the morning. Open 7 days.
