GETTING HERE
Turon Gates is about a 2.5-3 hour drive from the Sydney CBD including 12km on well-graded dirt road which 2WD vehicles will be absolutely fine to travel on. Download and print the map (by clicking the buttons on this page) to help you locate your cabin before leaving.
If driving between sunset and sunrise, drive slowly and keep an eye out for kangaroos and other nocturnal wildlife.
***IMPORTANT ***TO GET TO TURON GATES USING GPS
Search for Capertee, NSW. Then follow directions from Capertee below and use the map. DO NOT search Turon Gates or 942 Turon Gates Road - you may be taken a very long way around.
DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS FROM SYDNEY
There are 2 routes to get to Turon Gates from Sydney - either via Katoomba or via Bells Line of Road.
From Sydney via Katoomba:
Take the M4 Freeway (through Penrith and Katoomba). Drive past Lithgow and follow the signs to Mudgee. Take the Mudgee / Castlereagh Hwy exit and keep going until you come to a small village called Capertee - blink and you will miss it. (approximately 25 mins from Lithgow). Then follow directions below from Capertee.
From Sydney via Lithgow and Bilpin:
M2/M7 Motorway. Exit Richmond Road and turn right, following signs to Richmond and Lithgow. Drive through Lithgow and follow the signs to Mudgee. Take the Mudgee /Castlereagh Highway exit and keep going until you come to a small village called Capertee (approximately 25 mins from Lithgow) - blink and you will miss it. Then follow directions below from Capertee.
From Capertee:
Capertee is your last stop for fuel, food and beverage supplies. There is a pub with bottle shop and a petrol station which also stocks basic food supplies and ice. We do not sell ice at Turon at this time.
The turn-off to Turon Gates is found approx. 1.5km out of town on the left if you are driving from Sydney direction. After the turnoff, you will drive on well-graded dirt road. Follow the signs to Turon Gates and look out for the name or number of your cottage on the signs.
It's 4-6 kms to the mountain cottages (depending which one) and 12 kms to the river cottages and camping ground.
The destination is the journey!

Leura has beautiful cafes and there is an awesome lolly shop with wall to wall sweets and treats. The Bunker has outdoor seating and amazing vista over the countryside and amazing food for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Leura Gourmet Deli is a great lunch stop with yummy food and panoramic views from floor to ceiling glass windows.

Between Sydney and Lithgow via Bilpin:

In and around Bilpin fruit growers allow you to pick your own fruit fresh off the tree. If you don't have time, there are little stalls that pepper the road where you can pick up freshly picked fruit and home made treats.
From Lithgow to Capertee
